Jobs Numbers Underscore Urgent Need for Shift in PolicyFriday September 02, 2011
Washington, DC – Congressman Bill Shuster issued the following statement in reference to the latest employment figures released today which reported no net jobs created and unemployment holding at 9.1 percent.
“Today’s job report is unwelcome news to millions of Americans who are still looking for work while struggling to support their families and pay their bills. Unemployment has now been over 8 percent for over 31 consecutive months.
Nothing is changing and nothing has improved under President Obama’s watch. If anything we have reached a new normal of high unemployment, stunted growth and missed opportunity. In the midst of this, the President will address the nation next week to unveil his latest in a long line of “jobs plans.”
Speeches and platitudes will not fix our economy. Prime time addresses and media spectacle won’t inject confidence in to our shaky markets. If President Obama and his colleagues in the Senate are serious about fixing our economy, they should listen to the job creators in America who repeatedly tell me they want a stop to spending, needless regulation and strangling debt.”
