Shuster Announces the 2012 Recipient of the Ann Eppard Congressional Internship & Memorial Scholarship Award

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Bill Shuster is proud to announce that Shiann McGovern, a junior from Saint Francis University has been awarded the 2012 Ann Eppard Congressional Internship and Memorial Scholarship Award.

McGovern has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Ann Eppard Congressional Internship and Memorial Scholarship program and will serve as an intern in Congressman Shuster’s Washington D.C. office for six weeks this summer.

“The Eppard scholarship is very popular at Saint Francis and, subsequently, very competitive. Each year, the selection committee faces a very difficult choice because of the outstanding qualifications of the applicants. We’re fortunate to have such talented students interested in public service and I’m very pleased to announce the award of this scholarship to Shiann,” said Shuster.

McGovern is earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in Pre-law and a minor in Economics.

“Her academic record is outstanding with a 4.0 GPA and she currently serves in several campus and community public service organizations. She is well-prepared for her internship and her experience will be an invaluable resource for me,” said Shuster.

“The University is thrilled about the success of this memorial endowment in honor of Ann Eppard who was the first Pennsylvania woman ever to serve in the powerful position of Chief of Staff to a Member of Congress. We’re confident she will bring credit to Saint Francis University and return to the campus to enrich the lives of their fellow students,” said the Very Reverend Christian R. Oravec, T.O.R., Ph.D., and President Emeritus of Saint Francis University.

Since Eppard’s untimely death on Christmas Eve 2005, the Ann Eppard Memorial Scholarship and Congressional Internship at Saint Francis University has received more than 150 contributions totaling over $177,000.
