Shuster Congratulates Connellsville Twp. Volunteer Fire Department on $52,000 Grant04/17/13
Washington - Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that Connellsville Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) in the amount of $52,763. The funds will be used to purchase 16 new digital portable radios for their firefighters.
“This is great for the first responders at Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department and the people they serve and protect every day,” Shuster said. “This funding will allow them to buy new digital radios and bring them up to date with the new technology being implemented in Fayette County and help them better serve the people in that area.”
“We are very grateful for the assistance of Congressman Shuster. We have spoken to him repeatedly about how important it is for us to get the money to upgrade our radio system. This grant will allow us to switch from analogue radios and allow us to now communicate with the system that Westmoreland County uses,” said President and Safety Officer Dick Oglevee of the Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department.
The primary goal of the AFG is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
