Shuster Congratulates Lakemont Volunteer Fire Company on $160,000 Grant05/15/13
Washington – Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that Lakemont Volunteer Fire Company has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) in the amount of $164,403. The funds will be used to purchase 20 new breathing apparatuses.
“This is outstanding news for the firefighters at the Lakemont Volunteer Fire Company and the people of Blair County,” Shuster said. “This fire department was in dire need for new air packs. Their cylinders were out of date and had to be replaced. This grant will allow them to buy the necessary equipment to protect the volunteers who risk their lives every day to protect our community.”
“Representative Shuster’s support was very important for us. We have been applying for fire grants for a few years now and this is the first time we had asked Congressman Shuster for his support. We probably wouldn’t have received it without his help,” said Lakemont Volunteer Fire Company Lt. Carl Long.
The primary goal of the AFG is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
