Shuster: One Step Away05/20/13
EPA Approves of US Rt. 219 project
Washington– Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will not be asking for a higher review of the proposed Improvement of US Rt. 219 project. With the EPA decision, the project is eligible for its last permit needed before construction can move forward.
“The expansion of Rt. 219 is one step away from finally being a reality. This is the last hurdle to beginning the bid process and starting the construction on the Somerset to Meyersdale section of the highway. Once the EPA gives their approval the Army Corp
of Engineers can issue the permit to begin work on the project. PennDOT can begin taking bids and this critical north-south route will get the necessary expansion it needs for greater economic development,” said Shuster.
The EPA has sent a letter to the Army Corp of Engineers stating that they are not going to seek a higher review of the project, allowing the last permit to be issued. It is now up to the Army Corps of Engineers to issue the permit for the project.
