Shuster Legislation to Provide Emergency Relief from Propane Crisis Signed into Law03/21/14
WASHINGTON – Today the president has signed into law legislation by Congressman Bill Shuster (R-Hollidaysburg) that helps provide emergency relief to the ongoing propane and home heating fuels crisis in the United States.
H.R. 4076, the Home Heating Emergency Assistance Through Transportation (HHEATT) Act of 2014 was introduced by Rep. Shuster on February 25, and allows for expedited delivery of propane and heating fuel through May 31. Previous emergency measures by the Department of Transportation to allow tank truck operators delivering propane to drive for longer were only temporary, with each being limited to 30 days at a time. The legislation passed both the House and the Senate with overwhelming support.
“It may officially be spring, but with the potential for freezing temperatures and snow already back in the forecast, there is still a serious demand for these fuels,” said Rep. Shuster. “We need emergency measures that will last until the warm weather returns, and today we are delivering that certainty. I was pleased to see my bill signed into law, and to know that we are doing all we can to bring relief to the homes and businesses of Central and Southwestern Pennsylvania.”
