Letter to President Obama: Stop the EPA from Killing Coal in PA

Washington – Congressman Bill Shuster, along with Senator Pat Toomey and 11 other members of the Pennsylvania delegation, sent a letter to President Obama urging him to stop the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from finalizing new regulations to limit carbon emissions from new power plants.

“These regulations by the EPA are killing the coal industry and will increase the cost of electricity future generations. Coal has long been the backbone of Pennsylvania and its economy. About half of the state’s electricity comes from coal, which provides affordable energy for millions of Pennsylvanians,” said Shuster.

“These excessive regulations will only drive businesses and jobs out of our state and at the same time destroy our economy. This is why I am asking the President to remember the citizens of the Keystone state and realize that coal is a safe, clean, affordable energy source that creates jobs and allows hardworking Americans to feed their families,” Shuster added.

Senator Toomey and Congressmen Mike Kelly, Charlie Dent, Tom Marino, Tim Murphy, Jim Gerlach, Lou Barletta, Pat Meehan, Keith Rothfus, G.T. Thompson, Joe Pitts, and Scott Perry joined Shuster in signing the letter to President Obama.
