Shuster: President Obama Needs to Focus More on Jobs, Less on Speeches07/24/13
Washington – Congressman Bill Shuster made the following statement today in response to President Obama’s speech at Knox College on his “pivot” to the economy and jobs.
“It is time for President Obama to focus more on jobs for hardworking Americans and less on speeches that sell his shortsighted vision for our economy. President Obama’s economic recovery has produced 3.95 million fewer jobs than the average economic recovery, but the President did not offer any new proposals in his speech. He said, ‘in the next few weeks I’ll engage the American people in this debate’ on the economy –Republicans have always been engaged and focused on jobs.
The president needs to get serious about the economy and work with Republicans to achieve real change. If he is serious about creating jobs, than he needs to approve the Keystone Pipeline immediately. The pipeline will create thousands of jobs and provide domestic energy security for our nation.
President Obama also needs to work with us on a budget that will move this country forward. House Republicans have a plan that would balance the budget in 10 years, creates jobs, puts more people back to work and fulfills the promises House Republicans made to the American people to cut spending and end business-as-usual in Washington.
House Republicans have consistently passed pro-growth policies to get our economy back on track. It is time for the president and Senate Democrats to do the same.”
