Shuster Congratulates Alum Bank Community Fire Company on $71,000 Fire Grant

WashingtonCongressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that Alum Bank Community Fire Company has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) in the amount of $71,820. The funds will be used to purchase new equipment for 23 firefighters, a thermal imaging camera, and training for firefighters.

“This is great for the first responders at Alum Bank Community Fire Company and the people they serve and protect every day,” Shuster said.  “This funding will allow them to buy all new fire resistant gear and provide the necessary equipment to keep their firefighters safe while keeping Bedford County safe.”

The grant money will be put towards the purchase of 23 sets of turnout gear, which consist of fire resistant boots, helmets, Nomex hoods, pants, and coats. Alum Bank will also be able to buy a thermal imaging camera and provide firefighters with the necessary training to use it.

“The officer’s and members of the Alum Bank Fire Company are extremely pleased with the announcement of this grant award.  Our members will be able to respond and perform our duties with the confidence that we are protected with safe and reliable firefighting gear,” said Assistant Chief Kelly Davis of the Alum Bank Community Fire Company.

“We are very grateful for all the support Congressman Shuster and his staff members have provided with this and prior grant awards to the Alum Bank Fire Company.  We are also thankful that Congressman Shuster continues to support the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, allowing departments across the country the opportunity to apply for this much needed funding,” added Davis.

The primary goal of the AFG is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
