Shuster Congratulates Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Company #1 on $29,000 Grant04/17/13
Washington - Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Company #1 has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) in the amount of $29,165. The funds will be used to purchase 25 sets of new turn out gear specifically designed for fighting forest fires.
“This is great for the first responders at Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Company #1 and the people they serve and protect every day,” Shuster said. “This funding will allow them to buy all new turn out gear, specifically for forest fires. They will now have the necessary equipment to keep their firefighters safe while keeping Franklin County safe.”
The grant money will be put towards the purchase of 25 sets of lightweight turnout gear, specifically designed to fight forest fires. The gear consists of fire resistant boots, helmets, Nomex hoods, pants, and coats.
“We are absolutely thrilled with these funds and help from Congressman Shuster. If it weren’t for this grant we could not protect our citizens with the protection that Franklin County deserves,” said Mont Alto Fire Chief Danny Reed.
The primary goal of the AFG is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
