Shuster Congratulates Waynesboro Ambulance Squad on $50,000 Grant04/24/13
Washington - Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that Waynesboro Ambulance Squad has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) in the amount of $50,659. The funds will be used to purchase 35 new sets of EMS turnout gear.
“This is great for the first responders at Waynesboro Ambulance Squad and the people they serve every day,” Shuster said. “This funding will allow them to buy new EMS turnout gear, which will protect their first responders when dealing with biological hazards and allow them to better protect Franklin County.”
The grant money will be put towards the purchase of EMS turnout gear, which consists of boots, helmets, pants, coats and gloves, specifically designed to protect the first responder from biological hazards.
“The Waynesboro Ambulance Squad is pleased to receive the news of this grant award. It will provide personal protective gear to our EMT's so that they may respond in a safer manner to emergencies that may require them to enter a hazardous environment,” said Waynesboro Chief Casey Rock.
“This gear will keep our staff safer as they serve the citizens we are entrusted to protect. If it weren't for the diligent work of Congressman Shuster and his staff, we may have not had this opportunity, for which we are grateful,” Rock added
The primary goal of the AFG is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
