Shuster Congratulates Saxton Volunteer Fire Company on $135,000 Grant04/24/13
Washington - Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that Saxton Volunteer Fire Company has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) in the amount of $135,850. The funds will be used to purchase 26 new self-contained breathing apparatuses.
“This is great for the first responders at Saxton Volunteer Fire Company and the people they serve and protect every day,” Shuster said. “This funding will allow them to buy new self-contained breathing apparatuses, which are so vital to keeping their firefighters safe while keeping Bedford County safe.”
“We are very appreciative of the support Congressman Shuster has given us. He whole-heartedly supports all the local fire departments and knows what our needs are. There is no other way we could find the funds for this type of project, so we are very pleased with this grant,” said Saxton Fire Chief Mark Taylor.
The primary goal of the AFG is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
