Shuster Congratulates Tyrone Hospital On $150,000 ARC Grant10/03/13
Washington – Congressman Bill Shuster congratulates the Tyrone Hospital Health and Wellness Campus on being awarded a $150,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission. The funds will go towards energy upgrade that will reduce annual energy costs by approximately $120,000.
“This ARC grant comes at a critical time for Tyrone Hospital. Healthcare costs across the country will soon skyrocket and this money will allow them to build a more efficient heating system and give those cost savings back to their patients,” said Shuster.
The gas boiler system and HVAC control systems at the Tyrone Hospital are over 30 years old, with some controls and burner units being over 50 years old. The system is antiquated and does a poor job at regulating energy consumption and efficiency.
It is estimated that this system could reduce gas consumption at Tyrone Hospital by approximately 25-30 percent. Improving energy operations will assist in retaining the 200 employees that work in the main building, position the hospital to add 10-15 jobs in 2013 and 2014, and ensure Tyrone Hospital’s ability to offer quality healthcare to residents of the four county service area for many years to come.
