Mercersburg Volunteer Fire Company Receives Major Grant for New Firetruck

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. – U.S. Representative Bill Shuster (R-Hollidaysburg) announced today that the MMP&W Volunteer Fire Company in Mercersburg has received a Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) in the amount of $142,858.

“Serving three townships and borough is a difficult task, but it’s even more difficult when you don’t have safe equipment,” said Rep. Bill Shuster. “I’m excited to share the news that the volunteers of MMP&W will be receiving the necessary funds to acquire a new brush truck so they will be better able to serve Mercersburg and the surrounding area.”

MMP&W Volunteer Fire Company in Mercersburg has been awarded $142,858 through an AFG vehicle acquisition grant, which will be used to procure a new brush truck for the station.

“This grant comes at a most opportune time for the fire company,” said Dale Carbaugh, Fire Chief of MMP&W Volunteer Fire Company. “Shortly after applying for the grant to replace an unsafe brush truck, the truck experienced a major engine failure which our station could not afford to replace. Receiving this grant is a major victory for the Mercersburg community and the surrounding area. MMP&W Volunteer Fire Company thanks Congressman Shuster for his assistance and support.”

The MMP&W Volunteer Fire Company serves Mercersburg borough and Montgomery, Peters, and Warren townships in Franklin County.

Established in 2001, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant is designed to help meet the needs of firefighters, emergency responders, and emergency medical organizations. Funds from the AFG are used to purchase a variety of critical emergency service supplies including new equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and additional resources that local departments need to continue protecting the public.
